Evil eye is a curse believed to be cast by a malevolent glare, usually given to a person when they are unaware. Many cultures believe that receiving the evil eye will cause misfortune or injury. Talismans created to protect against the evil eye are also frequently called "evil eyes". Belief in the evil eye 🧿 and the amulets to protect against it may have originated in the ancient Middle East, and spread throughout the Mediterranean under the Ottoman Empire. It is deeply embedded in Spanish culture, whose colonists brought it to the New World where it took root in LATIN America and the Caribbean. In the Mexican culture the red string bracelets with the “Mal de Ojo” has become a staple in the culture .

QUE ES MAL DE OJO?

La creencia surgió en Medio Oriente y después se propagó hacia todo el mundo. Las deidades eran vistas como los seres capaces de producir mal de ojo. Pero la mirada de algunos seres humanos, si no es que todos, provoca daño en otros seres vivientes.

Los “ojeadores” no solo pueden ser personas, también animales, deidades y hasta objetos, destacan los antropólogos. “El daño puede realizarse a través de la mirada, pero también por medio de halagos, el pensamiento, el aliento y el contacto físico”. Los sentimientos de amor y cariño hacen que sea susceptible “ojear” y “ser ojeado”, con el deseo de encontrarse con la persona amada. Este mal de ojo sucede a través del pensamiento, aunque sea considerado como “involuntario”.
